There are increasing efforts to involve patients and caregivers in health research. Various frameworks are available that address the reporting of patient/caregiver involvement across the different stages of research. However, there is no framework for describing the impact of patients/caregiver involvement in detail.The research team, therefore, plan to develop a framework for reporting the impact of patient and caregivers involvement in health research (IMPACT) which will include the impacts on the research conduct/process, and on patients/caregivers and researchers. Development will include a literature review, Delphi survey, an international stakeholder workshop and pilot testing of the framework and will involve patients/caregivers, researchers, funders and other relevant stakeholders.
